Zhijin Feng’s family run farm produces one of the largest supplies of the Asian leafy green, Ong choy (water spinach) to markets and distributors throughout the Bay Area. Operating on a modest 10-acre leased plot, Zhijin’s mission is to continually optimize the overall management of growing their produce and wants to proactively cultivate his products more effectively and efficiently as time goes on.

Specializing in Chinese vegetable production, Zhijin’s farm prioritizes the cultivation of two primary crops: Ong choy or water spinach and Malabar spinach. Ong choy holds a significant presence in the market, driving the farm’s production efforts. Zhijin’s expertise extends to year-round cultivation of Malabar spinach, emphasizing its exceptional qualities as a low-maintenance, high-yielding crop that thrives with minimal intervention, especially when properly fertilized. Additionally, Tong ho or edible chrysanthemum and garlic chives are grown, albeit with lower market demand, showcasing the farm’s diverse yet strategic approach to crop selection.

Zhijin envisions a future for his local farming community marked by an increased equitable access to resources and reduced competition among growers.
