Santa Clara Valley Agricultural Plan

Investing in our working lands for regional resilience

The Santa Clara Valley Agricultural Plan is a strategic plan for conserving farmland and ranchland while mitigating climate change and promoting the development of a thriving agricultural economy. A joint effort by the County of Santa Clara and the Santa Clara Valley Open Space Authority, the plan was adopted by the Board of Supervisors in January 2019.

The Plan provides a comprehensive overview of agriculture in Santa Clara Valley and outlines four focal areas for achieving the goal of growing a vibrant regional agricultural economy while supporting climate change goals.

Focal Areas

1.

Improve land use policy to protect working lands.

2.

Create a regional agricultural conservation easement program and other voluntary financial incentives to protect agricultural lands and support sustainable agricultural practices.

3.

Develop an agricultural economic development strategy to support the agricultural sector and build a healthy local food system.

4.

Launch a branding, awareness, and education campaign to communicate the value of working lands and their connection to ecological and economic resilience.
